Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort
Sunny slopes, short lift lines, dry Cascade powder
Our review
Mission Ridge sits in the rain shadow, which means it trades snow volume for sunshine and light, dry powder. On a bluebird February day it's one of the best-value ski experiences in the state.
Lift lines are short by Cascade standards, the terrain rewards intermediate skiers, and the ski school is patient with first-timers. The B-24 wreckage on the upper mountain is a genuinely strange and memorable landmark.
Base facilities are dated. Nobody who skis here regularly seems to mind.
The mountain's character comes from geography. Sitting east of the crest in the rain shadow means fewer total inches than the passes get, but the snow that does fall arrives dry and light, and the sun shows up far more often than it does at Stevens or Snoqualmie. Locals learn to watch for the storm cycles that overperform here and to accept the firm days in between. Terrain skews toward long intermediate cruisers off Chair 2 and 4, with genuinely good tree skiing and steeper shots for anyone willing to hike the ridge.
The experience is unusually low-friction. Lift lines rarely exceed a few minutes even on a Saturday, parking is free and close, and a day ticket costs meaningfully less than the destination resorts on the west side. The ski and snowboard school is patient and well run, with kids' programs that fill early in the season, and rentals are available at the base. Night skiing runs on select evenings and is one of the best deals on the mountain. Facilities are honestly dated — the lodge is small, food is standard cafeteria fare, and the lift infrastructure shows its age — and nobody who skis here regularly seems bothered. The B-24 bomber wreckage from a 1944 crash sits near the top of the mountain, marked and visible, and is a genuinely odd piece of history to ski past. Check the road report before driving up; the last stretch climbs quickly and chains are occasionally required even when town is dry.
