Groups stay small, a guide walks you through the herd's history and daily care, and the animals are calm and clearly accustomed to visitors — you feed them lichen and pellets from a flat palm while the guide explains antler cycles, hoof changes between summer and winter, and how the herd is managed through the heat of an eastern Washington August. The information is substantive enough that adults stay interested well past the initial novelty.
