Washington State Apple Blossom Festival
The valley's oldest spring tradition, going strong
Our review
Running since 1920, Apple Blossom is the event the whole valley plans around. The Grand Parade shuts down Wenatchee Avenue and draws crowds deep on both curbs; get there ninety minutes early for a decent spot.
Beyond the parade there's a carnival at Memorial Park, an arts and crafts fair, food row, and free concerts most evenings. Much of it costs nothing to attend.
Parking downtown is genuinely difficult during parade weekend. Use the shuttle lots.
The festival has run since 1920, and its structure reflects a century of practice. Eleven days cover a youth parade, a classy-chassis car show, an arts and crafts fair at Memorial Park, food row, a carnival, and free evening concerts, with the Grand Parade on the final Saturday as the anchor. Royalty selection, the Apple Blossom Run, and dozens of service-club events fill in around it. Most of the programming is free, which keeps it a genuine community event rather than a ticketed spectacle.
Practical advice matters more here than at any other event in the valley. For the Grand Parade, families stake out curb space on Wenatchee Avenue starting early Saturday morning; ninety minutes ahead gets you a usable spot, two hours gets you a good one, and chairs left overnight are a local tradition with its own etiquette. Downtown parking is effectively gone by mid-morning, so use the shuttle lots at the fairgrounds and the outlying schools. Bring layers — late April in Wenatchee can be seventy and sunny or forty and blowing — and cash for food row, where a few vendors still prefer it. The carnival runs discounted wristband nights early in the week that are far less crowded than the weekend. Hotel rooms across Wenatchee and East Wenatchee fill months out for parade weekend. If crowds are not your thing, the weekday events during the first half of the festival deliver most of the charm at a fraction of the density.
