Valkyrie Fitness Studio
Kettlebell strength and aerial yoga in a downtown brick loft

Our review
Most gyms sell you access to equipment and hope you figure out the rest. Valkyrie Fitness Studio sells coaching, and that difference shows up the first time an instructor walks over mid-set to fix your hip hinge. The studio sits above SPORT Gymnastics on South Columbia Street, in a brick-walled upstairs space with silks hanging from the rafters and a green neon sign on the back wall.
The programming runs on two tracks. Kettlebell classes build real strength through swings, presses, and carries, scaled bell by bell so beginners and longtime lifters can train in the same room. Aerial yoga classes use hammocks to decompress the spine and open up mobility, which is a rare thing to find east of the Cascades. Class sizes stay small enough that instructors give individual feedback instead of shouting counts.
Jessica, the owner, sets the tone: high energy, no judgment, and a real interest in whether you keep showing up. New students are pointed toward Gentle or Beginner classes first, and booking runs through the studio app or the online schedule. Classes need two sign-ups two hours out to run, so book ahead rather than dropping in cold.
