Chelan Shores Resort

Classic lake summer: private beach, pool, boat slips

Our review

Chelan Shores is unfussy in the best way — the kind of place families rebook for the same week every summer. Units are individually owned, so decor varies, but every one comes with beach access and a pool a short walk away.

Boat slips are the differentiator. If you're bringing a boat, having moorage steps from your door beats fighting for a launch every morning.

Book by February for July weeks. Off-season rates in May and September are a bargain and the lake is still swimmable in September.

The property is a condo-style resort rather than a hotel, which sets expectations correctly. Units are individually owned and furnished, so photographs matter — two two-bedroom units on the same floor can differ substantially in updates and decor. What does not vary is the setting: terraced grounds running down to a private beach, two heated pools, hot tubs, tennis and pickleball courts, and lawn space that turns into an informal kids' zone by mid-morning every summer day.

Boat moorage is the feature that separates it from the rest of the south-shore options. Slips are limited and assigned, so confirm one at booking rather than assuming, but having the boat fifty steps from the door removes the daily launch-ramp scramble that defines a Chelan summer. Units come with full kitchens, laundry, and grills nearby, which cuts the cost of a week considerably given restaurant prices in town during peak season. Check-in is straightforward, the grounds staff are responsive, and the beach has enough shade to survive an August afternoon. Peak July and August weeks book by late winter, often by returning families holding the same dates, so plan a year ahead for prime summer or accept a shoulder date. May, September, and early October are the value play: rates drop sharply, the lake stays warm enough to swim into September, and the town is pleasant instead of packed. Bring your own beach towels and check whether your specific unit includes air conditioning, because a handful of older ones still do not.
